Description

Short technical description: A new way of measuring driver behaviour The ability to observe driver behaviour without the drivers knowledge is an advantage. Many studies have been conducted over the years in an attempt to explain why we behave as we do when driving a car in traffic. One of the major problems, however, is the fact that we are unable to gain access to the drivers actual behaviour through laboratory experiments or simulator studies. In the aforementioned types of study, the driver is aware that measurements of some kind are being made, and the studies are never, or very rarely, conducted in real traffic conditions. The Instrumented Car opens up to a greater extent than previously new opportunities for examining a car drivers actual driver behaviour. The advantages of the Instrumented Car include: All measurement equipment is concealed from the driver. The driver thus does not need to be made aware that he/she is being observed. Driving can take place in real traffic. The driver can be alone in the car, and his/her driving is thus not affected by the presence of a researcher, for example.
