Description

Short technical description: VTI Laser RST is a high speed multifunction road condition monitoring equipment. It consist of an instrumented van enabled to do measurement of road surface properties at normal traffic speed with contact less technique (such as laser cameras). Every variable can be measured simultaneously or independently. All measurements are made at normal traffic rhythm. The variables are calculated and displayed in real time. Normally average data are stored and displayed every 20 metres, although this is adjustable from 5 metres upwards. Raw data can be collected as necessary. The results are produced in a well-defined file format. Transverse profile is measured with the aid of up to 19 lasers and has a measuring width up to 4.00 metres. Rut depth is calculated from the transverse profile in accordance with the wire principle, both for the entire profile and for the right and left part. The crossfall of the transverse profile is measured as the inclination of the regression line for the transverse profile and as the inclination of a fictitious line through two of the outermost lasers on each side. Crossfall according to other definitions can be calculated following measurement. Longitudinal profile is measured simultaneously in the left and right wheel track. As a standard they are stored everey 5 cm (according to choice before measurement). At the same time, calculations are made of various unevenness parameters such as IRI (International Roughness Index) and RMS (Root Mean Square) values for six different wavelength bands (according to choice before measurement). Mactrotexture and megatexture are measured simultaneously in the right wheeltrack and in the centre of the carriageway. Curvature describes the mean curvature of the vehicles line of travel. Hilliness is displayed as the longitudinal inclination of the road in percent. Crack measurement. With the use of 6 laser cameras cracks and holes, as small as 1 mm are detected. The road environment can be video recorded with travelled distance and road parameters mixed into the picture. On request the road surface can also be video recorded. Location referencing is done with help of odometer and satellite positioning (DGPS). Construction date: 1980 Last upgrade: 0
