FEHRL May 2013 US Scanning Tour for 17 members

Some 17 participants from FEHRL members as well as TRAFIKVERKET attended the 2013 US scanning tour from 4-11th May 2013.

As a contribution to the Infravation scoping study, a US Scanning Tour  was recently undertaken in cooperation with FEHRL Association member FHWA to provide an additional input to assist the Steering Group in finalising their recommendations for the programme.

Some 17 participants from ARRB, BASt, DRD, FEHRL, FHWA, IBDIM, IFSTTAR, NPRA, Rijkswaterstaat, SINTEF and VTI, as well as TRAFIKVERKET, joined the third US scanning tour from 4-11th May 2013. They visited the following four locations:

  1. FHWA’s Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center
  2. Virginia Department of Transportation’s Virginia Center for Transportation Innovation and Research (VCTIR)
  3. Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) and
  4. California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Division of Research and Innovation

The specific aims of the tour were to study the systems adopted for the development and management of projects for advanced and innovative construction and maintenance, understand the requirements for research with a view to identifying potential areas for cooperation, avoiding duplication and reducing time to implement new products and services on both sides of the Atlantic.

To know more, attend the US Scanning Tour presentation at the Infravation session on infrastructure innovation at FIRM13 on the afternoon of Wednesday 5th June 2013 or contact Steve Phillips at steve.phillips@fehrl.org. More detailed information, including the report of the tour, will be available after FIRM13.
