FEHRL Institutes join forces to address road noise in internal project
Road noise is a major issue across Europe and a topic of research for many of FEHRL’s member institutes. Pavements with low noise characteristics are relatively well developed and widely deployed in some European countries, but less so in others. This can be attributed to concerns regarding high installation cost, long term durability and in service noise reducing performance. There are also concerns in some countries around performance in extreme cold climates generally and the use of studded tyres as a specific issue.
