ENR2 Initiates Three New Calls for January 2011

The ERA-NET ROAD II (ENR2) project  is initiating three cross-border funded, trans-national joint research programmes on three topics; Mobility, Design and Energy.  The call documents will be open and posted by the end of January 2011 in the section "Newest Documents". Advancing Bridge Safety and Serviceability: Scanning the Globe for Success

The Federal Highway Agency (FHWA) has published the report of its 2009 scanning tour of Europe.  The scanning team team visited to gather information on safety and serviceability practices and technologies related to the design, construction, maintenance, and management of bridges.

SPACE State-of-the-Art Literature Review on Self-Explaining Roads

SPACE - Speed Adaptation Control by Self-Explaining Roads - has published its first public deliverable, a state-of-the-art review entitled "Self-Explaining Roads Literature Review and Treatment Information". The literature review explores the evolution of the term ‘self-explaining roads’ and discusses various approaches to the concept. It further provides information about ‘self-explaining’ treatments that may have an impact on speed choice and would be appropriate for use on rural, single carriageway, higher volume roads. ERA-NET ROAD Conference on Climate Adaptation

REMINDER In 2007, four research projects - RIMAROCC, IRWIN, SWAMP and P2R2C2 - were let by the “Road Owners Getting to Grips with Climate Change” Project Executive Board (PEB) of the ERA-NET ROAD Programme. At the conclusion of this programme, a final conference is being organised on 8 & 9 December 2010, in Cologne, Germany to present the findings and recommendations. The event will expose practical outputs that can be applied across Europe, and will be important in facilitating the understanding of this research across the funding member states. FEHRL is organising the event in collaboration with the German Federal Highway Research Institute, BASt. The conference is free of charge and will be held in English. For those who cannot attend, on 9 December a one-way live streaming presentation of the introduction and projects presentations (10:30-12:45) and plenary (15:45-16:45) will be available (link).
